Hello there from Seva. This is Graham, and I wanted share a little bit about where we’re at with the studio and what we have planned.
We’re currently in the middle of the tear out, gutting the existing space in preparation for what’s to come. We chose cork flooring to provide a relatively soft place for your mat compared to a harder wood or other flooring types. Also, cork is a less slippery. During hot yoga classes, slippery floors can be a challenge and hopefully cork will allow you to practice with less fear of falling. A third and very important reason for cork is that it’s a renewable resource. We don’t want to contribute to the decline of the hardwood forests if we don’t have to.
In a further attempt to keep things green, Seva will provide free filtered water to all of our members and guests. You can fill any reasonably-sized container with as much water as you need for class. We hope to decrease of the use of plastic bottled water because of its impact on the environment. Although we will sell bottled water to those who need it, we encourage you to bring your own container.
Finally, I’d like to talk a little about heating. We are installing infrared heating panels. They are completely silent and use the least amount of energy to achieve the desired temperature. Infrared panels heat objects in the room but not the air, so breathing is much easier but you still get hot. After experiencing first hand multiple types of options we believe infrared is the most pleasant way to reach target temperatures. Well, as pleasant as it gets.
Watch this brief video to find out more about the far infrared heating as applied to a yoga studio.
That’s it for now. Happy to be able to share these updates, and excited for you to see some of the things we are doing to make the studio an ideal yoga home for you.
